On the east coast a 60 mile commute can easily be $20-40/day. At $30/day that is $7,500 per year. A 120 mile ride to a summer property can be $40-80. I can't imagine in places like the southwest where things are so spread out. How will a middle class family survive their commute costs on top of family costs?
